I think it was the template system and the experience of my users. Setting
up a style sheet and html page in CMSMS is very easy compared with Joomla -
I have just refreshed my memory by looking at a good Joomla tutorial at
Compass Designs and it still seems to be very complicated to customise the
stylesheets and page templates. With CMSMS it's simply a matter of creating
your own stylesheet using your own styles, creating the html and then
pasting the code into the cms. You then just insert the necessary CMSMS tags
to draw in menus, content, etc etc. Joomla is a lot more complex to me.
I also find that CMSMS is somehow more intuitive. That's not an easy thing
to quantify and I don't doubt that Joomla is being used to create some great
websites by very skilled designers but I felt I was spending more time
working it out that actually designing so productivity wasn't too good! I
did create a couple of websites and for a while thought it was the bees
knees so I didn't give it up willingly - I had invested a lot of time in it.
I discovered CMSMS by accident while searching for Joomla help and it
aroused my curiosity - so I fiddled around with the demos, installed it and
literally within a few minutes had a better understanding on it than I had
for Joomla despite spending many hours on it. Importantly for me it produced
compliant code as well (I had a few problems with Joomla and compliancy -
and I did try out Version 1.5) as well as V1).
So that's it - and to keep this kind of on topic it is much easier for me to
edit sites using Dreamweaver.
Of course these things are often up to individuals and if you like Joomla
and get on with it there is nothing wrong with that.
CMSMS isn't flawless - no CMS is - but I think it's getting there - a new
release is due soon which promises even greater things.
And re the end users - they found the system easier to understand which
clinched it for me.
And apologies for this being longer than intended (-;
Regards
Lynne

experiences
Lynne,
I have looked into cmsmadesimple and currently learn joomla.
I have read reviews and listened to folks, which is why I choose joomla.
Since you have played with joomla before settling on cmsmadesimple,
would you share what specifically you felt cmsmadesimple handled better
compared to joomla?
Peter
