How can I work on php pages with DW? I have DW mx and have basically no
experience with php. From what I have read, I need to install a Apache
server
on my local machine in order to work on php pages? Not sure if that is
correct. If so how do I do that?
Thanks
Rene
Rene.
Just this evening I finished installing the Apache software on both my
laptop and also my desktop computer. I believe everything is working
satisfactorily.
I needed a test server, too, and did not have the Professional version of
Windows xp on either computer so I could not use the IIS function provided
with the Pro version. The Apache package was not all that difficult-took me
about three hours to figure it all out. I suggest you go to www.xampp.org
<http://www.xampp.org/> and use their package to do the download and
install. XAMPP makes things easier.
I cannot speak for DW-mx as to whether it is equipped to work with PHP but
the XAMPP utility downloads and installs everything you will need to setup a
test server. Download the full version, not the lite version, of Apache
because it is limited. The full version does it all and does not take all
that much room on the hard drive.
Once installed, the httpd.conf file will need to be modified to make it all
work. This file contains the configuration data and documentation. The
file contains the documentation necessary for the mods.
One book I used is: Beginning PHP, Apache, MySQL web development. ISBN:
9780596529949. The book walks you through the setup. I got it at the local
library. Unfortunately, I did not read the book until after I was finished
with the install. I am reading it now to learn the basics of the Apache,
PHP, etc.
An additional resource, you can try is the w3c tutorials at
www.w3schools.com <http://www.w3schools.com/> The folks there are offering
FREE online training, including the stuff you need, and it is fairly
straight forward. w3c is the World Wide Web Consortium-the experts on all
facets of the web, servers, browsers, xhtml, PHP, etc.
Hope this helps.
Peace and blessings. Ed
