[ADW] Adding a Search Box

Can anybody point me to where I can find a search box script. I want to
put it on a site that has many articles and I would like the viewer to
search via the search box instead of scrolling through the archives.

TIA,

Re: [ADW] Calendar Issues

The iframe is not big enough to hold the extra data for the other months.

<IFRAME src="http://www.localendar.com/public/rmolinary" height=600
width=700 marginheight=0 marginwidth=0 scrolling=no frameborder=0
border=0></IFRAME>

In your main source, increase the height to include more real estate. If
you go from 600 to something like 700, you should see some difference.
There's probably a better fix, but I'd have to study up on it.

Like this?:

I don't usually link to about.com, but in this case I think they have
a decent solution.

RE: [ADW] viewing in different browsers

MS has a free image of IE6 on XP you can download. Some with IE7 one each
for Vista and XP. There is even one for IE8 beta on XP. They are time bombed
but MS refreshes them as they expire. You will need a copy of 98 fox IE5 and
another for IE 5.5.

I do not recommend any of the workarounds due to issues like Jonathon
raised. As for Safari I have heard the windows version does not render the
some as the Mac one but if you don't have access to a Mac I have no better
suggestion.

Officially, there are no ways to install several versions of IE on the
same computer. There are some underground ways of installing IE6 and
IE7 on the same computer, and I've seen those work in the past, but a
friend of mine recently did that and some JavaScript and Flash would
make his browsers crash, and sIFR elements would display double, so it
wasn't much of an advantage because the browsers did not display the
same as they would standalone.

Microsoft advises that you use a virtual machine to test your code in
multiple versions of IE. Their Virtual PC program is a free download,
although you will need a license of Windows 98 or newer (XP will work
fine) that you can install on this virtual machine if you want to run
Internet Explorer 6.

Did you just say Internet Exploder? :) I love that.

I'd say that most Mac users use Safari, so you should download that,
as well <http://www.apple.com/safari/>. Safari and Opera often display
sites similarly, although there are some occasional discrepancies, so
I would download Opera as well<http://www.opera.com/> (I like using
Opera for casual browsing anyway).

As for designing your sites cross-platform design, a lot of that comes
from case-by-case experience, but in my experience, the more you
develop to standards, the easier it will be to get a consistent design
among several browsers. Internet Exploder (I'm going to use that name
more often!) sometimes requires hacks in order to behave, though.

Re: [ADW] Rollover text and image

Sorry if my question seemed 'flashy' LOL. Forget I said anything about the
flash slide show.
What I want is when you do a simple roll over text, and a non moving image
on the right swaps out for another photo.

I'll have to look back through my files to remember how to do it.

Thanks,
Beth

This sounds like a distinct Flash coding/development question since flash,
as opposed to a more DW related question of How to I get flash into my
document?, type of question.

I apologize for having to say this, but this should really be asked in a
Flash group, and should be at least marked as OT (for off-topic).

-------------------------------

I have a site where I have a slide show running on the right and my
client would like me to have the bulleted items on the left highlight
automatically when the right picture comes up. The slide show is
flash. I thought maybe I could offer that when you rollover the text
the image on the right changes. But I forget how to do that. Have an
image on the right that doesn't' move, and when text on the left is
rolled over the image on the right changes.

His request:
Would it be possible to synchronize the pictures to
each line under the category "types of service"? For example, when
the picture of the flooded basement appears, the text corresponding
to that picture changes color.

Thanks,
Beth

How would it be written if it were checking the id attribute in the anchor

[ADW] Moving Pop Up Hidden Image

I am at my wits end trying to figure out what code to use to move a
pop up hidden image. On the page

http://www.liquid-studio.net/services.html

Concept Development and
Design Development the pop up comes up in the same place. I need one
to be a bit higher and the other a bit lower, so they are across from
each word.

Help with this would be much appreciated.

Re: [ADW] Re: Dreamweaver and Flash interaction in CS3.

I like this solution. I will create two versions of the site, a Flash
and non-Flash. Users can then choose. Keeps it simple which is where
my mind is...

Comments are appreciated.

between the <noscript></noscript> tags that dreamweaver adds when you
insert flash. The code is put there to allow you to use the
Properties Panel (for the swf) to view the swf in Design view and for
your site visitors who block javascript to view the flash content.

I have done this before without creating any problems in the multiple
browser I use for testing (not tested on Safari) but you might like
to get a second opinion before doing this

[ADW] Rollover text and image

This sounds like a distinct Flash coding/development question since flash, as opposed to a more DW related question of How to I get flash into my document?, type of question.

I apologize for having to say this, but this should really be asked in a Flash group, and should be at least marked as OT (for off-topic).

Thanks,
Beth

What do you mean a Porsche can't get 25 mpg. Another dream dashed.

Seriously, thanks for the advice. If I read between the lines, I
should either use Flash and put up with the validation error, or move
to a different technology.

(Which is right now beyond my skill level but I am learning).

Just be strong with the client and tell them the marketing effect

[ADW] iframe question

http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=10594866

How can I convert the section:

Adoption Info

... Roseville, MI586-294-8292.

to an iframe with the same everything.

I tried but I ran into a couple of problems. The fonts did not match what shows currently and the iframe cut off part of the section at the bottom. I wanted to show without any scrolling; I wanted to show all.

Thanks.

[ADW] Calendar Issues

Sorry I couldn't think of a better subject line! :)

I discovered this great website today: www.localendar.com. It is basically an online calendar that you can copy and paste some html and it will show up on your webpage. Here is the page I am using it on: http://racelandband.com/calendar_itinerary.html

Now the problem I am having is that not all of the calendar is showing. One most months the bottom part of the calendar is getting cut off. For example: May has the printable view button that you find at the bottom of April cut off. How can I go about fixing this?? It maybe because I am totally exhausted, but I just can't see a solution tonight!

Thanks!

Move your comment declarations, <!-- and -->, inside your

solve both problems.

Fyi Anchor tags can indeed have ID attributes. The problem you were
having was that your script was simply expecting the ID to be on the IMG
tag.

[ADW] javascript weirdness and validation

I don't know if anybody cares or not [whimper] ;-) ............

But I figured my predicament out (got the validation "green light").
AND I learned something in the process.

Forgive me if this is just common knowledge but it wasn't to me:

When you nest an image in an "a" tag, such as:

<a href="http//mysite.com/news.htm"><img
src="http://www.mysite.com/Images/logo.gif" id="news_logo" alt="news"
width="85"height="22" /></a>

The id attribute must go inside the img tag and not the a tag.

I was approaching the "a" tag as if it were a div......like some kind
of a container. Like this:

<a href="http://mysite.com/news.htm" id="news_logo"><img src, etc. etc.></a>

It is not a container for the id attribute.

Also, because I wasn't putting the size in the img tag, things were
jumping around during my img swaps. Since I added the size
attributes, all's well. Shoulda known better......

Anyway, back to things that matter......thanks, gang!

What I find interesting with the CS3 versions of Flash and DW is that
it's easy to plop a flash file (.swf) into Dreamweaver, but that when
you validate the page, DW burps an error that it doesn't like the
(presumably) deprecated "embed" command.

I want to learn to be standards-compliant but it's a huge amount of
work to avoid the use of Embed.

I've been studying SwfObject 2.0.

Are there alternatives?

[ADW] javascript weirdness and validation

Hi gang.

Couple of things......

This site validated before I added the javascript:
http://www.therubydoe.com/test/newestIndex.html

Once I added the javascript, I got 6 errors: *http://tinyurl.com/5y53c6

*The javascript should do this:

http://www.therubydoe.com (switch the red
image-links to white)

It isn't working correctly (i.e. subbing the white images on rollover) and
it's also making the existing images jump around.

If anyone could lend a hand I'd be much obliged.

So, first, why the validation errors?

And, second, why the jumping and no image substitution. It was working fine
here: (same link as above):

http://www.therubydoe.com

Thanks.

[ADW] Dreamweaver and Flash interaction in CS3.

RE: [ADW] Email Newsletters

No your not! I do the same. I had a very "lively" conversation with a
professional association that I belong to last week, because they started
sending out their HTML e-mail as one large JPEG image placed in the BODY.
Ugh!

One other thing to keep in mind as you design your HTML newsletters is
that many people (myself included) choose not to display external images
in HTML emails. Fill the alt tags of all images that you are wanting me
to download. If I can't tell what the content of your email is without
the images, I may delete it entirely unread. I can't imagine I'm the
only person in the universe who does this.

DW8 also places styling in the header, but this frustrates me when I create newsletters. It takes a lot of time to go in and style links, for example.

I wish there was an option somewhere as to where code could be placed.

Dreamweaver CS3 places the CSS in the head of a document when you use the PI, so Adobe has gotten away (finally) from using inline CSS.

But you are correct, however, that HTML email only works with inline styles.

You don't have to use flash for this -- it is no different than when you
mouse over a thumbnail image and the big image changes. Javascript will
work quite nicely. All you need to do is change the image source of
your large image in the onchange event of your dropdown (assuming you
are using a select for this). If you have CS3, there should be a nice
little Spry feature to do that.

Inline, with the exception of AP elements which it does in the
header. IMHO once a table is given an ID, the code should go to the
header to avoid validation errors such as on background images. I
thought I remembered getting Vertical Align errors too, but when I
tried it those validated.

RE: [ADW] Email Newsletters

The issue of e-mails and styling had come up not too long ago. There is a
great reference chart at:

http://www.campaignmonitor.com/blog/archives/2007/04/a_guide_to_css_support_
in_emai_2.html

... and the actual chart is available as PDF or Excel...

http://www.campaignmonitor.com/reports/Guide_to_CSS_Support_in_Email_2007.pd
f
http://www.campaignmonitor.com/reports/Guide_to_CSS_Support_in_Email_2007.xl
s

This chart elaborates on all of the popular mail clients and the type of
styling they handle. FYI... for those that do take <link> elements in the
head, keep in mind that a LINK element requires a live internet connection
to pull down the styles.

You may also want to poke around the Resources and Help/FAQ section of the
Campaign Monitor web site. It has a lot of great info regarding html e-mail,
regardless of whether you use their service or not.

Tell me if I'm wrong here, but one of my complaints with
dreamweaver
is that it continues to do exactly that, write inline styling when
using the properties inspector. So it should be a snap using
Dreamweaver? One of my biggest beefs about this is for example
background attributes, these are not valid xhtml when written in
inline code. Once a element has an id or class it should be defined
either in the header section CSS or external CSS file normally. But
for html email it should be perfect I would think?

I have a shirt design with the clients logo. I will be offering it in different shirt colors. When

Dreamweaver that does this?

I have only created static sites up to this point. Can someone please give me some direction.

Re: [ADW] Email Newsletters

Dreamweaver CS3 places the CSS in the head of a document when you use the PI, so Adobe has gotten away (finally) from using inline CSS.

But you are correct, however, that HTML email only works with inline styles.

Tell me if I'm wrong here, but one of my complaints with dreamweaver
is that it continues to do exactly that, write inline styling when
using the properties inspector.

[ADW] Re: Avoiding Search Engines

dont know how to avoid search engines but for the zip files maybe a
password protected directory like i have on my client login on
http://www.3dtoolshop.com

if u go to my site click on the client login and see what it does,
then cancel for example.

i have in my website a text file that is supposed to block robots from
indexing my website don't know if that would help or not.

Re: [ADW] Email Newsletters

I think one of the main purposes of properties inspector is to allow one to
modify the properties, aka attributes, of the currently selected tag, so I
would expect to get inline styling from the properties panel.

Thanks Rob for the information. I tried following your "Easy Peasy"

[ADW] Shown and hide with option menu

Hi guys

I'm trying to make a option menu (nr 0 is the first selected option)
and with that I want to hide the couple op li types. When a other
option (for example nr 3 is selected I want to show that amount of li
type (textfields times 2).

Everything seems to work, but the only thing I want is that the li
type is been hidden from start.

How can I do this?

Below here is the code I have so far:

<script language="JavaScript">
<!--
window.onload = function()
{
hide_names();
}

function dog( element_name )
{
return document.getElementById( element_name );
}

function show_names()
{
var count = dog( 'field_11' ).value;
hide_names();
for( i = 1; i <= count; i++ )
{
name = 'name_' + i;
dog( name ).style.display = 'block';
name = 'last_name_' + i;
dog( name ).style.display = 'block';
}
}

function hide_names()

for( i = 1; i < 6; i++ )

Re: [ADW] Email Newsletters

We do this 2 ways, depending on the mesaage and the target audienace.
For our parents, we send an email with a PDF attachment, and send it through our internal exchange server.
For our alumni/freinds mailing list, we use a paid service, they get to deal with the spam filters etc..
For special immediate action things, we use the paid service and a "canned template" for HTML to both lists.

[ADW] Greetings Group, An introduction

Hi My name is Jason and I have been working with designing websites
since about 1995, allot has changed over the past decade, went from in
love with FrontPage to knowing its the worst editor on the planet. I
have been a Dreamweaver user since about 2000 or so. I'm not an
expert, but I can get things done. Last couple years I have been
concentrating on my personal website. my website is one of those its
mine i want this and this and this and this, oh no now it looks
lame... delete delete delete. my strong points are graphics and
modeling with 3d programs such as Maya, Rhino, 3Ds Max and image
editing with CS3 suite.

RE: [ADW] Email Newsletters

I design my clients' newsletters in Dreamweaver just like a web page, but
with a few differences. As Gary pointed out, you must use absolute urls with
each image source. Also, the css styles must be within the coding of the
page; not on a separate file. Also, make sure it's not too long so there's
not a lot of scrolling down.

I have a #apDiv10 with a Z-index of 11.
It is right in the middle of the page, and says "Welcome to

Shouldn't I be able to see it? Why is it invisible?

Re: [ADW] Email Newsletters

I do a couple of these a week, using PHPList to send. I will probably move to one of the paid services. I'm limited to 500 emails per hour by my host, so I toggle back my list so it sends 480 per hour, and in about 4 hours I'm finished. Basically I start a send before I go to sleep at night.

There are a few things you'll need to do different when designing a newsletter as opposed to a Web page. First, it's back to tables for layouts. Many email clients do not handle CSS well. That also means you need to do in-line styling for fonts and colors. That can get tedious.

Remember to do complete URLs to your images. I've sent out a few in the early days with only partial links, and then finally realized what I had done.

I haven't downloaded a script. I've used PHP once, so I'm a beginner in this area. A little background would be greatly appreciated!!

The script that resides on your server can contain your email address. Are
you using a script (PHP, ASP, Perl, etc) that you downloaded? In the scripts
that I've used, the instructions tell you which line to add your email
address.

Dreamweaver has some basic layouts included for you to start with. The main
problem, IMO, is that if you specify a background color in a column, the
color may not extend to the bottom. This page shows you how to use them;

Also use jpeg compression. If you have Photoshop, use the "save for web"
option. This will allow you to see the effects of different compression
amounts. It will show you the file size and download time for your images.
See this site for creative use of images; http://csszengarden.com . Click on
the links under "select a design" including "view all designs".

Hi Monica,

having this in your form:

<INPUT TYPE=HIDDEN NAME="RECIPIENT" VALUE="monica@murphystransport.com">

is one reason why spambots have it so easy. Captcha won't help here.

I've tried to put Captcha on the form with mixed results. The echo
part of the page works because the email comes in fine. But the bottom
page of the page that goes to the visitor with the data they sent has
errors. These are the two most common:

Re: [ADW] Just learning basic design questions

1) give the page background a color, the table or div container in the
center for content has a different background color or image. The
simplest way in DW is to just drop a table in the middle of the page
and center it in the properties inspector. Give the table an image or
background color. However tables are really not in the current wave of
design trends of tableless CSS layout design. However to successfully
do this your going to need some understanding of html and css code. To
be truthful your still really going to need code understanding to do a
good job even with tables. So I would advise getting good books on
basic html and dreamweaver. Your dealing with a program that supports
WYSIWYG layout, but at a professional level that I think assumes you
know the code at least somewhat.

2)If you have photoshop use save for web and not only do you want the
72dpi you mention, but you also want to increase the compression,
lower quality number, until you notice a difference that becomes
unacceptable. This will give you the smallest file size. Depending on
the image dimensions though it's hard to say how well this will
integrate with your page. Having an image background is often very
limiting to making your table or container div size the same as the
background image dimensions. Many people are not so worried about file
sizes anymore because it seems most people are using broadband, but it
is still a bad idea for dialup users. So it depends on your target
audience and your proposed content.

[ADW] Just learning basic design questions

It's been years since I have made a web page and feel like I am
starting from scratch. Just bought Dreamweaver but before I get
started, I hope I can get some answers to some basic questions.

1. Some web pages have a center area where all the content is and
usually the rest of the webpage (on either side) is a solid color
(fastest example would be MSN). What is that called and if I choose to
use that layout, what is the easiest way in Dreamweaver to do that?

2. I am an artist and would like to use a photo for the background of
my webpage template. I have resized to 72dpi. Other than that, what is
the optimum size to do this and is this going to make my website
sluggish no matter what I do? In other words, can using a background
picture ever be successful?

Thank you.

Re: [ADW] OT: My SQP 5.0 & PHP 5.0

For MySQL, you were almost there:

http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/5.0.html#downloads

Click on the appropriate operating system. If you're on Windows, you'll want to download the Windows Essentials (x86).

You can download the GUI tools at http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/gui-tools/5.0.html.

For PHP, go to:
http://www.php.net/downloads.php

For Windows, download the PHP 5.2.5 Installer.

Now I am very confused. The video says I need the MySQL 5.0 and MySQl

I guess basically my question is this: I have NO IDEA where to download

Re: [ADW] Avoiding Search Engines

As Al points out, the robots.txt and meta are good ways to start, but there's no guarantee that all search engines will pay attention to them. If you have files that you want to protect, you should place them in a password-protected directory. That greatly reduces the chances of them being found (since, if it's set up correctly, the SE's spider would have had to log in in order to get to the file in the first place) and it assures that even if the file did pop up on a search, it wouldn't be accessible to anyone other than those whom you intend.

If you're not sure how to do this, take a look at this group's archives. The question of how to secure a directory comes up a lot, so you'll find quite a few resources.

Chick,

List the items to "ignore" in a robots.txt file at the root level of your
web site. This is a simple text file that indicates to the search engine
spiders information. One of the things that can be included is what the
"ignore".

Here is a literal example:

Disallow: /clients/
Disallow: /images/
Disallow: /includes/
Disallow: /misc/
Disallow: /bg_FFFFFF.htm

In the above example, the spiders will ignore EVERYTHING is the "clients",
"images", "includes", and "misc" folders. In addition, they will ignore the
"bg_FFFFFF.htm" file. The entries are root-relative, hence the leading "/"
character. Note that the "Disallow" statement does not permit wildcards.

I didn't know that Rob, and you control the display change action the

Re: [ADW] set target to a div?

I don't remember exactly why, but DW CS3 decided to call what was
previously referred to as layers, Absolutely Positioned Elements,
abbreviated AP. Here is some simple example code showing some
differences in how a div is or is not a layer.

#layer1 { position: absolute; top: 17px; left: 24px; width: 100px;
height: 100px; z-index: 2; }
#container1 { position: relative; top: 0; left: 0; width: 400px;
height: 200px; }
#container2 { width: 400px; height: 200px; }
--></style>
</head>

<body>
<div id="layer1"></div>
<div id="container1"></div>
<div id="container2"></div>

Layer1 is a layer, note the position:absolute plus top and left
position statements as well as a z-index of 2. The 2 says it will be
higher then elements with a z-index of 1 or unnamed elements. Elements
with a z-index of 3 or over would be above it. The way the code is
written here the layer is positioned relative to the top and left
browser edges.

Container1 has a relative position statement and if the top and left
statements were other then 0, it would position itself to those
dimension relative to the place it would normally occupy inline with
text. This part isn't terribly useful, but if the top CSS code remains
the same, but the bottom code were reordered to be like this:

<div id="container1"><div id="layer1"></div>/div>
<div id="container2"></div>

The layer is now inside the container with the relative setting.
Without container1 having a relative setting the page would display as
before with the layer still positioning itself to the browser edges.
But adding the relative setting makes the layer now position itself
relative to container1 boundaries. Thus if we were to center
container1, layer1 would follow it.

Container2 is just a plain div inline with text put here just to show
the difference.

Dreamweaver allows you to draw AP's by selecting the icon on the
layout tool bar. If you have went into preferences under the AP
section you will see a check box to nest AP's inside each other. You
will most likely want this checked if you want to add these using the
graphical interface. However I find that always getting your div or
layer positioned correctly in the code doesn't happen always using the
graphical interface. So I either type it directly into the code or
position my curser in code where I want to add it and click the add
div icon which pops up dialog to name it, and also go to the CSS file
to define it. Also be selecting code and clicking add div I will get
an option to wrap the div around the selected code which is handy.
Simply by giving the div the absolute positioning and top/left(could
be bottom/right or even top/right as well) and a z-index I have made
my div into a layer.

RE: [ADW] set target to a div?

Sue,

Layers are a bit of a misnomer and can be confusing to anyone that dealt
with Netscape 4. A layer is an absolute positioned (AP) DIV with a z-index.
The AP aspect allows you to stack things in the same position, and the
z-index allows you to set the "layering" of the AP divs. The label of
"layer" is a contrivance of Macromedia and not a web "specification". That
is why you largely won't find any mention of LAYERS in books other than
Dreamweaver books.

You can also achieve a similar affect by using DIVs that have their display
set to NONE. This avoids the need for z-indexing, because display:none does
not cause an element to use the space it needs on the page. (As opposed to
visibility:hidden, where you simply cannot see the DIV, but it occupies
space on the page.)

DIV display:none example: www.italiascornercafe.com/menu.html

And, of course there are iFrames, which let you push through darned near
anything in a "window" that sits in your page.

iFrame example: www.pmiregion5.org

You could also achieve similar results with server-side includes and
dynamically rewriting the page.

Re: [ADW] set target to a div?

Actually rereading her question it is sort of confusing as to whether
she wants to bring in another div, or another file, which could be an
image file, or could be a page file. If it's another page file as Rob
suggested the inline frame would be best most likely. If you just want
to make a div appear that can be controlled via giving the div a not
visible attribute, use layers if you need multiple divs in the same
location on the page, I believe its behaviors you assign the div to be
visible by clicking on a link or hover over it. Or if you just want to
have an image file change by clicking or hovering(remote rollover)
again it is done by putting the starting image where you want it,
making sure it is named, and assigning the behavior you want from the
pallet.

RE: [ADW] Avoiding Search Engines

Chick,

List the items to "ignore" in a robots.txt file at the root level of your
web site. This is a simple text file that indicates to the search engine
spiders information. One of the things that can be included is what the
"ignore".

Here is a literal example:

Disallow: /clients/
Disallow: /images/
Disallow: /includes/
Disallow: /misc/
Disallow: /bg_FFFFFF.htm

In the above example, the spiders will ignore EVERYTHING is the "clients",
"images", "includes", and "misc" folders. In addition, they will ignore the
"bg_FFFFFF.htm" file. The entries are root-relative, hence the leading "/"
character. Note that the "Disallow" statement does not permit wildcards.

[ADW] Avoiding Search Engines

Greetings,

I have some files on my website server that I would like the search engines
to ignore. In the files that are html or php, what code do I put and where
to tell search engines to ignore? And...I also have some .zip files on the
site that I would also like ignored (I don't want them getting in the wrong
hands). I use to webserver to pass personal files to friends and relatives.
These are generally larger than most email clients allow. Downloading from
the site works well.

Any ideas, especially for the zip files, would be appreciated. Thanks in
advance...
Chick

Re: [ADW] set target to a div?

I'd be happy to use layers if that will work for me. thanks
for pointing me in the right direction. I have been using
the Missing Manual for DWcs3, and it seems to have a lot of
missing info itself. Such as stuff about layers? I'm not
very proficient with DW so maybe *I* am missing something here?

No. The big limitation of DW's sort table command is that it cannot be run on tables with merged cells.

RE: [ADW] set target to a div?

Yes, you could do that. Actually you wouldn't even need to use layers
(z-index) if you manipulate the DISPLAY property,.

But if you need to pull in discrete separate pages from various locations,
then iFrame would be the choice.

You could also use server-side language to manipulate the contents of the
DIV, but that might be getting into more than is needed here.

I created a template with 'image objects' / rollovers. The rollover
images are png files stored in an 'images' folder in my local root
folder. I then used this template to create 8 other html files.The
html files are in the local root folder.

When I preview these files on my browser every thing shows but when I
uploaded the site none of the image objects showed the related png
files. Basically there are a lot of empty navigation buttons.

Any ideas why?
Should I keep the image object pngs in the image folder or should they be in the same
folder as the html files?

The hierarchy might look like this:

ROOT
-htmls
-IMAGES
--pngs
-TEMPLATES
--dwt

Thanks

Okay after posting my message below, I realized that library items wouldn't
work, because they aren't dynamic. Durh! So I'm back to PHP or AJAX (using

I've got a site that client intends to maintain in Contribute. However,
there is one aspect of the site that I'm sort of hitting the wall with
Contribute. The site has a vertical navigation bar that is currently stored
as a Library item. Client needs ability to modify the navigation bar as a
Library item. I've mulled over several workarounds including AJAX and PHP,
but they all bring with them an inordinate amount of overhead just to
maintain a navigation bar. If the client could simply edit a *.LIB file this
would all be honky-dory, but I'm not quite sure how to achieve this. Has
anyone been down this road?

[ADW] [OT] any Contribute gurus out there? gotta question!

Hi all,

[ADW] Pop Up Below JPG

I am hoping someone can help or at least lead me in the right
direction. I have looked in my Dreamweaver books, but haven't found
the answer.

How do you put a pop up (either text or jpg) underneath or next to a jpg.

Here is the web site: http://www.liquid-studio.net/services.html The
owner wants a pop up jpg below 1. Concept Development.

Many thanks in advance for help.

RE: [ADW] Login and password page

Hi Anthony,

Depending on where the site is hosted, you may access cpanel for that
domain,

and create a password protected folder simply by choosing it in cpanel.

So you'd place the contact list inside that folder, and if someone clicks on
a link to view the list,

they'll be getting a dialogue window asking for a login name and password.

Let me know if this is too general, it's really easy on most servers.

This is a little off topic, but I would appreciate it if someone would
direct me to a resource for using PHP with the DOM for creating dynamic
pages in Dreamweaver. I have already used a little AJAX and love the instant

gratification of producing dynamic web pages without the browser having to
reload the page, but I am thinking ahead to users who don't have
javascript enabled; I want to provide the same effects for those viewers. I
have some experience with PHP, but have not been able to find a resource
describing the syntax for accessing the DOM node tree via PHP. I am guessing

it's similar to javascript...but...???

Any direction would be much appreciated. A book resource would be ideal.

Thank you,

I'm actually *building* a tool for this, right now. I had been using MS

Maybe I need to make it a commercial thing :P

[ADW] Linking images with drop down menu

Greetings,

I want to design a website for a client of mine. I am in the screen printing and embroidery
business. I want to offer this client a company store where employees can purchase items I
produce plus items I do not produce but will inventory. I have found a lot of canned
programs out there such as ZenCart and OSCommerce, but none of them will do an important
thing that I think will make this site more useful.

I have a shirt design with the clients logo. I will be offering it in different shirt colors. When
an employee uses the dropdown menu that lists the colors and chooses one, I want the
image of the shirt to change to that color. I have seen this on many web sites, but don't have
any idea on how it works. Is this a dynamic dropdown situation? Is there an extension for
Dreamweaver that does this?

I have only created static sites up to this point. Can someone please give me some direction.

Thanks
Ken

Actually on a related note, just make sure that they support FLV file types.
I've had clients report problems that were a simple matter of adding FLV as
a MIME type.

You need to talk to your web host and make sure that they support HTTP

the FLV Component will work.

[ADW] Script for Submit Form

It's been a few years since I've added a code for a Form Submit. I
have the page all set up in the site, I just need to add the code -
which one is recommended and easy to set up?

Thanks!

- Susan

Re: [ADW] firefox layout question

Did you take a look here?
http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http://www.wholesalerinfo.co.uk/members/members_baby_1.html

Among the things that are going wrong (based on what you had before, but
have since changed) which may not be obvious from the results are the style
sheet link in the body rather than in the head, multiple copies of the three
javascript functions, multiple embedded style sheets in the body which need
to be moved to the head and there are two opening body tags.

You're missing "Scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js"

Re: [ADW] Adding video

You need to talk to your web host and make sure that they support HTTP Streaming, as that's the only way that the progressive download version of the FLV Component will work.
